ODC Faculty Member Publishes a Book on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education
ODC proudly celebrates a significant achievement as one of our distinguished faculty members has published a sole-authored book with Springer Nature, a leading global publisher, titled “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: A Contemporary Examination of Illich’s Theories”. This milestone highlights a remarkable scholarly contribution and reinforces ODC’s growing presence in research and thought leadership.
The book serves as an exploration and critique of current educational systems, drawing upon the philosophies of Ivan Illich, and addresses the evolving landscape of higher education in the context of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The author critically examines the deep-rooted inequities within educational and societal structures, offering a thought-provoking analysis of the mechanisms of control embedded in traditional educational institutions. A radical shift toward autonomy, decentralized learning and the use of AI as a tool to create a more humane and self-directed educational experience is proposed, challenging readers to rethink current paradigms and embrace new approaches to learning and knowledge.
This publication reflects ODC’s dedication to supporting its faculty in their research and academic endeavours. We encourage all members of the ODC community and beyond to explore this profound work, now available for preview. The author invites readers to critically engage with the book’s content and join a wider conversation on liberating educational practices from the shadows of conformity and control.
